Three Romance Videos from Old Bollywood

by Aashti Bhartia on 23 Aug 2009

Three love-full, passion-full song videos from Old Hindi Cinema: Reluctant, Shy, and Brimming with Passion. Get yourself a glass of wine, and watch these.

1. A Reluctant Suhag Raat: Kabhie Kabhie (1976) by Yash Chopra

Who: Raakhee Gulzar, Shashi Kapoor on their suhag raat, with glimpses of Amitabh Bachchan.

What: The tension-filled marital bed.  Tender moments and tears, long silences, endearingly awkward cuddling and removing of jewelry.

The Twist: Raakhee is married to Shashi Kapoor, singing “Kabhie Kabhie”to herself while remembering her lover Amitabh Bachchan who wrote the song for her.

2. Shy First Love: Baharon Phool Barsaon from Suraj (1966) by Shankar Jaikishen

Who: Vyjanthimala and Rajendra Kumar. Mohammed Rafi’s voice.

What: Dim lighting, a garden at night. A Shy girl and A Genteel lover.

Moment: When he, following her through the flowers and creepers of the fantasy garden, picking up a peacock sings “Zara tum dil ko behlaon, mera mehboob aaya re,” as she runs away.

3. Forbidden Passion: Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum from Silsila (1981) by Yash Chopra

Who: Rekha and Amitabh Bacchan. Also starring Jaya Bachchan.

What: Extra-marital love, a passionate affair. Two lovers drawn to each other like magnets.

Moments: The long, slow hug Rekha gives Amitabh Bachchan. Kisses when on-screen kisses were taboo.
